Our World
At Huckleberry Vets we are committed to ensuring wherever possible to reduce our impact on the environment and think smarter in the ways we work as a veterinary practice. When we set out to build our veterinary practice we knew not only did it have to reflect our personal commitment to providing the highest standards of veterinary care but also our personal convictions about environmental sustainability.
Below are just a few things we are doing at Huckleberry Vets to reduce our impact on the environment.
From the use of local suppliers and craftsmen to the selection of our beautiful flooring, sustainably sourced from recycled materials, we have thought carefully about where our materials are coming from. In addition, our material choices have enabled our suppliers to support tree planting projects around the world. So far this brings our count to 1250 trees planted but this is just the start!
Since opening Huckleberry Vets have been working hard with Surfers Against Sewage to reduce our plastic use, waste and pollution. We are very proud to announce we have been awarded ‘Plastic Free Champion’ status. We use a virtually paperless system that runs on technology instead of trees and seek to buy recyclable products as much as possible. From our cleaning materials, to our preventative flea and worming treatments, all our products are selected to be as environmentally friendly as possible, ensuring we are caring for our pets whilst also protecting the world that our animals live in.
Huckleberry Vets are a member of the British Bee Veterinary Association (BBVA). Bee populations are declining significantly around the world. This is a serious problem for each of us, as bees help to carry out the pollination that is so vital in producing many of the foods we eat every day. Around our practice you will see lots of bee-friendly plants, there to provide a much-needed source of nectar and pollen for our bees.
We offset each member of our teams CO2 through supporting climate projects across the world. Below are just some of the projects we have contributed to:
- Preserving the Amazonian Rainforest in Brazil
- Using waste biomass to produce electricity in Chile
- Producing renewable wind energy in Bulgaria
In addition to supporting these projects we are contributing to responsible tree planting initiatives. Although our baby trees are not mature enough to sequester carbon in large quantities, they are still out there, quietly sucking up carbon all the same! And of course, as they grow, not only will they restore wildlife habitats but will contribute to large quantities of carbon removal.
On average we are currently planting around 120 trees a month. However, we have also made the decision to plant a tree in memory of any of your pets that have sadly passed away.
